The Edinburgh Competition Festival - Final Concerto Class

The Edinburgh Competition Festival has been a feature of Edinburgh city life for decades, and, indeed, I won one of the classes fifty years ago before I turned professional. It is an institution designed to honour and reward expertise in music at a high amateur level, and, like myself, many previous winners have gone on to be successful professionals, including Susan Hamilton, Adele Paxton, Moray Welsh, Donald Runnicles, Susan Tomes and Malcolm Martineau.

The Final will take place on Sunday 12th March at 5.30pm in St Cuthbert’s Church at the West End of Edinburgh’s Princes Street, and I would encourage you to go along and support these young musicians.

The final will be between:

Raj Bhaumik – Weber - Clarinet Concerto

Tom Robertson – Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No 1

Dida Condria – Rachmaninov – Piano Concerto No 2

Alexandru Placinta - Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto No 1

Good luck to the four finalists.

Brian Bannatyne-Scott

Brian is an Edinburgh-based opera singer, who has enjoyed a long and successful international career.
